Marketing Automation Stays Simple
Squarespace Email Campaigns can send broadcasts and basic sequences. Multi-step nurtures, branching workflows, attribution, behavioral triggers, and account-based marketing don't exist. Most growing teams add Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, or HubSpot Marketing alongside - and reconcile two contact databases.
Limited App Marketplace and Integrations
Squarespace's Extensions marketplace covers core integrations (shipping, payment, accounting), but it's narrower than competing platforms. Many useful integrations require Zapier as a middle layer, which adds maintenance and points of failure.
No Native A/B Testing or Smart Content
Squarespace doesn't include A/B testing, personalization, or smart content as native features. Growing marketing teams that want to test page variants, personalize by traffic source, or vary content by lifecycle stage have to add third-party tools (Optimizely, VWO) and tracking scripts.
The Real Cost: Pretty Plus a Marketing Stack
Squarespace's pricing is reasonable for design-focused sites. Most growing teams also pay for a separate CRM, a separate marketing automation tool, a separate A/B testing platform, and analytics. HubSpot's Marketing Hub plus free CRM usually replaces most of that stack at a comparable or lower total cost - without the platform limitations.
